World Digital Detox Day, celebrated on December 10, has become an important part of the global awareness campaign against mobile phone overuse.

Mumbai: Dr. Rekha Chaudhary started the 'World Digital Detox Day' movement in 2016 to create awareness against the excessive use of smartphones and social media. This movement, which started in the land of Maharashtra, is now celebrated with enthusiasm in many countries around the world. Meanwhile, the World Digital Detox Day initiative, celebrated on December 10, has become an important part of the global awareness campaign against the excessive use of mobile phones. Dr. Rekha Chaudhary has observed that due to the increase in mobile phones, social media and screen time, the problems of reduced family communication, increased irritability and loneliness in children, sleep problems and mental stress are increasing rapidly. She also emphasizes the need for digital detox by giving the message that technology is important, but do not get lost in that technology yourself. Dr. Rekha Chaudhary said that the World Digital Detox Day team had earlier submitted a formal statement to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis requesting him to impose restrictions on the use of social media for children below the age of 16.
At least one hour offline a day: Under this campaign, an appeal is made to spend at least one day a year completely offline and give time to family, relatives and oneself. On these days, a complete break is taken from mobile, TV, laptop and social media. This is not a problem of the screen, it is a problem of the mind and relationships. Dr. Rekha Chaudhary has suggested the following measures: keeping 'mobile-free time' in the family, not handling the phone for at least an hour before going to bed, diverting children to sports and nature, and staying offline for at least an hour a day. Also, currently, correspondence is being done through the Maharashtra government to implement this initiative in schools in the state and the administration is receiving a favorable response, said Dr. Rekha Chaudhary. Meanwhile, Dr. Rekha Chaudhary has been honored with the Global Peace Award in Dubai by the Global Peace Institute (UK) and the Global Peace Organization for this work.

Promoting Digital Wellness: In 2016, Dr. Rekha Choudhary launched the World Digital Detox Day initiative, recognizing the growing crisis. The initiative has resonated with people around the world and has been supported by many countries around the world. Digital detox camps, screen-free programs and mental health workshops are being held in many countries including Maldives, Bhutan, Mexico, Serbia, Indonesia (Bali), Hungary, Philippines and Miami, USA, through schools, wellness resorts, social organizations and mental health experts. This is highlighting the importance of promoting digital wellness and preventing excessive smartphone use. An important step in this year's initiative is to impose restrictions on social media use for children under 16 years of age, an issue that has been supported by all those involved in the initiative. While spreading the message of digital detox around the world, the comic book "My Digital Detox Journey" for children aged 3 to 8 has been created by the World Digital Detox Day team. This book explains in an interesting way how to adapt to the digital age and not get addicted to it, says Dr. Rekha Chaudhary.
Family communication has increased: Under Secretary of the General Administration Department, Devidas Bhagure, has started implementing this initiative at his home after recognizing the ill effects of digital addiction, informed Dr. Rekha Chaudhary. In this regard, Devidas Bhagure said, "Digital addiction has really become a serious problem. That is why I have kept a digital detox box at my home and am using the 1111 formula for digital detox. All members of our family, like slippers, put their mobile phones in that digital detox box as soon as they enter the house. Initially, it was really difficult to keep the mobile phones away. But now we have gradually become accustomed to it. Due to this, our family communication has increased and just as the family used to sit together and chat in our childhood, we spend time with each other by chatting and playing games," said Devidas Bhagure.
...and started getting enough sleep: Mercedez Muñoz, a resident of Buenos Aires province in Argentina and a member of the World Digital Detox Day initiative, said, "While working in the hospitality sector, I had developed a habit of using my mobile phone for 16 hours a day, constantly in hotel administration, corporate event management, wellness programs, and mental and physical health activities. But it was affecting my health. I myself used the 1111 formula of the World Digital Detox Day initiative. The most important benefit for me was that my mind calmed down and I started getting enough sleep."
What is the 1111 formula for digital detox? : According to Dr. Rekha Chaudhary, the first rule is not to use the mobile phone for the first hour after waking up. Because when we use the mobile phone in the morning, we put the brain to work right away. On the contrary, if we spend the first hour without the mobile phone, the brain naturally completes the process of waking up and starts beautifully. The second rule is not to use the mobile phone in the last hour before going to bed. Because when we turn on the screen before going to bed at night, the reels and memes do not end. We fall asleep and if we do not sleep completely, the morning starts to feel sluggish. Therefore, if we do not look at the mobile phone for an hour before going to bed, we get a full sleep and the brain is refreshed. The third rule is no mobile phone during meals. When we put the mobile phone aside while eating, the taste of the food reaches the brain. Due to this, digestion is good. The fourth rule is one day a week for the entire family to have a digital fasting day. That is, a 24-hour break from the screen and play with the family, walk, chat, cook, remember old times and have a lot of fun. Also, if we keep it offline for a day, the entire house is refreshed. This improves studies, concentration, sleep, peace of mind, and family relationships, all without spending a single penny.
